The OPPO Find X2 and Find X2 Pro are OPPO’s newest flagship devices. As the name would imply, the Pro variant does have a few additional tricks up its sleeves that set it apart even further — but both the phone share a lot of similarities across the board.

OPPO Find X2

Both the phones largely adopt the same design, and you can tell the two apart either by the choice of back material or by the camera module. The base Find X2 gets options of either Glass or Ceramic back panel, while the Pro gets options of Ceramic or Vegan Leather. Both the phones have a triple rear camera setup, but the Pro has the unmistakably distinct periscope zoom lens.

On the front, both the devices are identical, sporting a large 6.7″ AMOLED curved display. This is OPPO’s best display on a consumer smartphone to date, and there’s a lot to talk about here. For starters, you get 120Hz refresh rate and 240Hz touch sampling rate, ensuring that you get the smoothest experience across the UX. OPPO does adopt a variable refresh rate system, which balances UX smoothness with its battery life cost by ramping down the refresh rate and touch sampling rate in applications where you don’t need such firepower. The display also boasts of 10bit color depth (1.07 billion colors), which is an upgrade from the current generation of 8bit color depth (16.7 million colors) displays found on smartphones. The default color mode also has a JNCD (Just Noticeable Color Difference) of 0.8, ensuring that you not only a wider color spectrum on this display, but also greater color accuracy. Even further, the OPPO Find X2 series comes with the O1 Ultra Vision Engine, which enables Motion Clear Video Enhancements that can greatly increase the frame rate of film, television and sports broadcasts with frame rates below 30fps to 60 and event 120fps. The result of this optimization is that videos play out smoother and have lesser motion jitter and stepped contours. The O1 Ultra Vision Engine also enables the Find X2 Pro to support the conversion of hardware-level SDR videos to HDR video, achieving better video quality, clearer display, brighter colors, and higher dynamic range as a result.

On the inside, the OPPO Find X2 and Find X2 Pro come with the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 SoC with X55 5G modem with support for both SA and NSA 5G. You also get generous 12GB LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.0 storage on both the phones, with the Find X2 getting 256GB storage and the Pro getting an upgrade to 512GB. There is no expandability option on either phone. On the battery side, both the phones feature a dual cell design adding up to a decent battery size. They also support SuperVOOC 2.0 charging for 65W fast charging which can fully charge the Find X2 Pro’s battery in just 38 minutes using the compatible charger. You can also stick with a USB Power Delivery charger for charging up to 18W.

The camera setup is where things get interesting once again. The Find X2 Pro comes with two 48MP sensors — the first one is the conventional Sony IMX586 but coupled with a wide-angle lens, while the other is a new customized flagship sensor from Sony, the Sony IMX689. The IMX689 is a bigger sensor at 1/1.43″, with a single-pixel size of 1.12µm pre-binning and 2.24μm post-binning into 12MP shots. This makes it the largest single-pixel size camera compared to other modern 48MP/12MP sensors on smartphones so far. Then there is the periscope camera, which offers 10x hybrid zoom and 60x digital zoom. There’s OIS present on the IMX689 and the periscope camera too, as well as Ultra Night Mode 3.0 across all the three cameras. The OPPO Find X2 Pro can also take 3cm macro shots using the ultra-wide camera. The Find X2 Pro also extends its great run into video recording as it comes with Ultra Steady Video 2.0 as well as 10bit Live HDR video recording. You also get features like 3-mic recording, wind noise reduction, and Audio Zoom — a feature that allows audio to be focused from the area where the video is zoomed into.

Lastly, the OPPO Find X2 and OPPO Find X2 Pro come with Android 10 out-of-the-box, underneath ColorOS 7.1.

Pricing and Availability

The OPPO Find X2 with 12GB RAM and 256GB storage will cost you €999 (~$1128), while the OPPO Find X2 Pro with 12GB RAM and 512GB storage will cost €1199 (~$1354) . The phones will go on sale in early May 2020 across Europe.
